Confined Space: Technician 40 hour program
Confined Space: Technician is a 40-hour course designed for employees who are responsible for performing confined space entries on the job. This program will train the employee to the level of Technician so they may be part of a confined space rescue team, and is based on standards established with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146. Students will perform victim retrieval in simulated and actual confined spaces. This course includes simple and compound rope hauling systems, as well as advanced confined-space entry and extrication techniques. Emphasis is placed on rope rigging, hazard identification, and hazard mitigation skills.
Course Objectives:
- Demonstration that all individuals understand the requirement of the three worker levels, Supervisor, Attendant and Entrant and ensure competency in confined space entry procedures.
- Duties of the Confined Space Entry Supervisor, Attendant and Entrant
- Qualify employees to be an Attendant, Entrant, and/ or Entry Supervisor
- Identification of a Permit Required Confined Space and the use of an entry permit
- Hazards involving confined space work
- Atmospheric monitoring and ventilation
- The use of PPE and familiarize employees with entry and rescue equipment
- Heat stress inside confined spaces
- The control of Hazardous Energy in confined space work
- Termination of an entry
- Emergencies in confined spaces and train employees in proper methods of confined space rescue
Workers will need to complete both the practical and a written test to successfully pass the program and to receive a Technician level certificate.

Practical/ Field Exercises:
Include a variety of basic confined space entries Perform rescues from an elevated platform
Setup tripod for rescue using the SKED/Backboard
Establish Primary and Safety Belay systems
Use of mechanical advantage systems for rescue
Air monitoring/ventilation
Establish a supervisor to oversee entries
Establish safety rescue teams for rescue
Bring
Hard hat, gloves, eye protection, and non-skid shoes with safety toe boxes.

8 Hour Confined Space Entry program
Course Length 8 hours – This program trains employees on the hazards and procedures of performing a confined space entry in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.146.
Course Objectives:
- Demonstration that all individuals understand the requirement of the three worker levels, Supervisor, Attendant and Entrant.
- Duties of the Confined Space Entry Supervisor, Attendant and Entrant
- Qualify employees to be an Attendant, Entrant, and/ or Entry Supervisor
- Identification of a Confined Space
- Identification of a Permit Required Confined Space and the use of an entry permit
- Hazards involving confined space work
- Atmospheric monitoring and ventilation
- The use of PPE
- Heat stress inside confined spaces
- The control of Hazardous Energy in confined space work
- Termination of an entry
- Emergencies in confined spaces and train employees in proper methods of confined space rescue
Workers must complete and pass a written test to receive a certificate of participation. This program only includes classroom training and does not include any practical/ Field exercises.

24 Hour Confined Space Rescue program
Course Length 24 hours – This program trains employees on the hazards and procedures of performing a confined space entry/ rescue in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.146.
Prerequisite: 8 Hour confined Space Entry Program or Equivalent
